CoStar user

I am a commercial broker in an active market. I was told CoStar was the gold standard for data. I have found out otherwise and encourage any potential users to investigate thoroughly. This includes those who are currently members and relying on CoStar's data. I know most brokers do not dig deep into CoStar's system to verify data by cross checking with reliable and factual data from governmental agencies such as appraiser, clerks and corporation databases. If you do so, you will be shocked at the incorrect data that brokers and investors assume is correct. From misplaced properties such as residential units being placed into commercial databases to incorrect ownership information to many numbers being incorrect, all I can say is BEWARE! W depend on correct data to give to investors and clients. Should you actually spend some time researching CoStar you will agree that many items are a great cause for concern.

False Promise with Bad Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Switching to CoStar has been a terrible process of false promises and bad customer service. We were very happy paying for Loopnet at $1000/year for the past 10 years, until they eventually throttled the service while keeping the price the same. Finally, we decided that we have no choice but to switch over to CoStar. First Promise We were told that if we sign a 2 year agreement saving 20%, they will apply the payment we paid for Loopnet and give us 2-3 months free of CoStar Suite. Because of this, we decided to start our Costar contract date for March 31st rather than January 31st. That didn't happen. And we were stuck with a throttled Loopnet for an extra few months. Second Promise When they changed their mind on giving us CoStar Suite for the few months, we asked them continuously to credit the Loopnet charge and just start Costar earlier from our contract. NO CAN DO. Third Promise CoStar then continued to charge us Loopnet quarterly without us knowing. On April 6th, after CoStar started on March 31st, we got another charge for Loopnet. Why? We are now paying for their up-sale. Now we are on the phone with them getting a credit. They decided to credit us only 70% of the charge. Why? Who knows. On the phone now with Lucille in Customer Service, and she acted as if we were paid to be on the phone with her. She was sharp, raised her voice the whole time, and did not see the logic behind all of this. Further, she was just very hard for someone who we'd rather not be on the phone with - we would rather just use CoStar and get what we were promised. Overall, stay away from costar. They may have just had their most profitable quarter, but they fail to reinvest in quality control systems that help. They don't care how long you have been a customer, or that you are a customer at all. They will promise what they have to to get the sale and you sign the contract, and then leave you with a hard-nosed customer service department to make a claim.
